تستهدف هذه المساهمة عرض إسهام النظرية السياسية المعيارية في التخطيط والسياسة اللغوية. وتركز على تصورات هذه النظرية لكيفية تدبير الدولة للغات والتنوع اللغوي من منطلق واجباتها ومسؤلياتها. وقد تناولت في البداية مفهوم الدولة وسلطة الدولة في إطار التقليدين الليبرالي والماركسي. وركزت بعد ذلك على النماذج والمقاربات المعتمدة في النقاش المعياري ضمن التقليد الليبرالي حول التخطيط والسياسة اللغوية، كما تناولت بالتفصيل جوانب من نظريتين متنافسين في العدالة اللغوية؛ نظرية قيليب فان باريس وآلان باتن بوصفهما من أكثر المنظرين السياسيين الذين قدموا تأملات معيارية وشاملة ونسقية بشأن واجبات وأدوار الدول في التخطيط والسياسة اللغوية والتي أسساها على جملة متنوعة من المبادئ الليبرالية ذات التداعيات المؤسسية والسياسية على اللغة والتنوع اللغوي.
