The Construction of the Narrative Discourse between the Source and Target Texts; A Critical Study of the Arabic Translation of «Il fu Mattia Pascal» by Luigi Pirandello

This study deals with the way in which the construction of the narrative discourse is preserved when a literary work is translated from one language to another. We focused on the voice of the narrator which is a fundamental element in the construction of the discourse considering that he mediates the reception of the events. We will discuss it through the critical study of the Arabic translation of the Italian novel “Il Fu Mattia Pascal” by Luigi Pirandello, realized by the Egyptian translator Moheb Saad Ibrahim in 2007. We will show in our study that the translator's choices in shaping the narrator's voice affect the nature of the narrative discourse, which differs in the translated text from what it was in the source text.
