Abstract

Mohasheta Debi (Mahasweata Devi) (1926-2016) is one of the great and feted writers in the world in late twenty century. She was a prolific and best-selling writer of short fiction in Bengali. She wrote her fiction only after thorough research in the concerned subject. Therefore, strong effect of reality is clearly visible in her fictional works. Her writings have won her many prestigious awards and honours in India and abroad. Mohasheta Debi was born in a family of artistic achievers in Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh now. She produced more than one hundred works of fiction, edited books and magazines, contributed articles to them, presented papers in seminars and participated in conferences organised in India and abroad. Almost all of her works have been translated into many a language including English for their literary value, artistic importance and the sublime thoughts. Perhaps she was the most translated of the contemporary Bengali writers. She was associated with many tribal welfare organisations. Mohasheta Debi received her education at schools and universities of Bengal and taught at its schools and colleges as well as at the foreign universities.

Now, it is very clear that Mohasheta Debi is one of the great writers in the world. In view of the importance of her works in the eyes of critics I rendered her biography by Ashok Choudhury into Arabic. The writer has evaluated almost all her works very beautifully, comprehensively, completely and concisely in this article. I, therefore, translated it in order to introduce her in the Arab world.
